We have been working on some critical features that were missing from the initial beta launch such as a comment system, the ability to add an addendum to announcements and some design changes.

Tell us what you think...

Hey everyone,

I am making a list of future features/updates that LectureShare will be making. So here it goes:

  1. We will be switching to a flash viewer for documents so student wont have to download documents and view them locally. They will be able to view them directly on the website. In addition, flash paper will be more search engine friendly and increase traffic to your course.
  2. I know a lot of people have been having trouble with uploading video so we will be updating the code for the video part of the website so it is more reliable.
  3. We will be adding a feature to give instructors the ability to make a course public or private. Right now all the courses are public and we understand that not everyone likes this.
  4. Adding a feature that gives instructors the ability to keep track of grades for their students.
  5. We are also in the process of developing software that allows instructors to create audio and video recording of their lectures and post them on LectureShare. We hope to finish this soon.
  6. There are also many design/interface issues that we will be taking care of in the next release of LectureShare.

We hope to come out with the next release of LectureShare in June and have an OFFICIAL LAUNCH in August.

If you have any suggestions just post them on the comment board and we will add them to the list.

Thanks,

Ezra Katz

It has been brought to my attention that LectureShare needs to undergo some spring cleaning in terms of deleting old and unused courses. In addition, I am instituting a new policy: If a course was created but no information has been posted to the course within 30 days of creation it will be deleted. This change in policy will take effect sometime in mid-May.

Other improvements that people recommended I make is:

1) Allow teachers to ban students from accessing specific courses. I'm not sure how I am going to implement this but I will add some more instructor controls.

2) A chat room to allow instructors to hold office hours.

3) Adding a so called 'Mail Center' where you can send private emails to everyone registers for your course. I think this feature is very worthwhile and I will work on setting it up.

Hi everyone,

I have slowly been adding features to LectureShare:

  1. I have added ipaper document viewing so students can view documents directly on LectureShare.
  2. I have added the ability to make courses private or public.
    1. Within this feature instructors have the ability to ban or block students from joining a class.
  3. Instructors now have the ability to enable/disable commenting on an announcement

I still would like to add:

  1. A method for teachers to keep track of grades.
  2. A method for teachers to upload video's of their lectures.

LectureShare will be continuously updated throughout the summer so stay tuned for future updates.

Sincerely,

Ezra

I am glad to announce that we now support flash document conversion of Office 2007 formats such as .docx, .pptx and .xlsx .

This feature was made possible due to ipaper updates. Thanks!

I have added a "Share" button below the "Course Information" section on each public course webpage. This allows users to add a course webpage to their favorites list or share it with their friends using a bunch of different bookmarking/sharing sites.

The new homepage has been released. I think it allows guest users to see what LectureShare is more easily. It gives them a taste of what the announcements look like and what are some of the top/new courses.

I'd love to hear your thoughts about the new homepage...

Here is the press release we recently sent out...

It talks about the new Scribd partnership, the new comment system and the new gradebook feature.

It's a real thriller.

We are proud to release a new GradeBook feature on LectureShare. The gradebook can be accessed by going to your course webpage and clicking on "GradeBook".

The GradeBook allows instructors to securely keep track of grades for their students in one central location. Once the instructor chooses to release grades, the students are able to view their grades and monitor their progress in the course.

If you have any feedback or comments dont hesitate to email LectureShare or leave a comment.

I'm racking my brain for important features for the next version of LectureShare. Here is what I have so far:

Bugs:

1) More stable video upload system

2) More intuitive user interface. I understand this is a problem. I will fix it.

3) People have reported problems with the login system. I will investigate.

4) Option to receive email when someone submits a comments on an announcement.

Features:

1) Allow students to upload course material.

2) Picture uploading.

There are plenty of other featuers to add...but I'm blanking right now.
